This minority undergraduate summer program is ten weeks longs and targets students after their first year of undergraduate studies with complement of basic course work in the sciences (biology, chemistry and/or behavioral sciences). Opportunities are available to study molecular biology, animal models genomics and drug discovery as well as DNA repair, cell cycle biology, stem cell biology, behavioral sciences and health disparities. GCCRI Summer Program
Greehey Children's Cancer Research Institute Summer Program is designed to allow talented undergraduate students who are interested in a career in academic research to spend approximately twelve weeks during their summer break conducting hypothesis-driven cancer research in one of the existing research laboratories at the Greehey CCRI. The program is intended to educate the next generation of cancer researchers, and has offered students from Texas to the Middle East an opportunity to learn in a fast-paced, cutting-edge, cancer research environment.

Predoctoral Training Program

Exito! Latino Cancer Research Leadership Training
The Institute for Health Promotion Research (IHPR) at The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio conducts Éxito! Latino Cancer Research Leadership Training to build the field of those working to reduce Hispanic/Latino health disparities and cancer research by encouraging master's-level students and master's trained health professionals to pursue a doctoral degree and a career in research. Participants attend a five-day Éxito! summer institute that enhances understanding of: the power of research to affect change; research methods, theory and interventions; cancer control; and networking and skills to successfully apply to a doctoral program. Participants also are eligible to apply for paid internships. Éxito! is directed by Dr. Amelie G. Ramirez, professor and director of the IHPR, and funded by the National Cancer Institute. "David Irizarry": David Irizarry of McAllen, Texas, participated in Éxito! Latino Cancer Research Leadership Training in 2011. He said the program sparked a much greater interest in the possibility of pursuing a career in health disparities.

"Group": Éxito! Latino Cancer Research Leadership Training conducted its first class in 2011 in San Antonio. The program conducts annual summer institutes.
